Topic Tuesday: The positive side of mental health difficulties *closed*

Re: Topic Tuesday: The positive side of mental health difficulties *NOW OPEN*

A reoccuring theme here seems to be linked to 'self awareness'.

What about any positives for those around you?

Any thoughts?

Re: Topic Tuesday: The positive side of mental health difficulties *NOW OPEN*

Hey BatGuano

this has a very sociological flair, in which the 'personal troubles' of individuals, are actually an issue at a broader level-societial level. So are you saying the positive of that is a 'village approach'? Sorry if Ive missed the point.

Re: Topic Tuesday: The positive side of mental health difficulties *NOW OPEN*

I think I showed people around me that it is important to keep your dreams alive, and often people don't have the opportunity to reflect on where their life is heading. My hospitalisations interrupted quite a few lives in small and big ways and that gave people space to reflect.

Debbi,

That's not 'small things'

They are very important life skills that everyone should have.

It was there a second ago. It was a great post too! Maybe it's on a another page coz we are so busy posting it's creating newer pages😄

Re: Topic Tuesday: The positive side of mental health difficulties *NOW OPEN*

Hey Debbi,

Welcome to the forums!!
Your post is really insightful. I wouldn't say 'changing your thinking' is a small thing. I actually think that's huge! Something that I don't think a whole lot of people understand.

Re: Topic Tuesday: The positive side of mental health difficulties *NOW OPEN*

I see, accept and take the negative but choose to let it go.  Not so much an excuse but a reason for it's being it.  I see the negative as part of my whole but pick my battles and ditch the rest.  Doesn't always work though.  When it is working, I treat the negatives like a triage and it's my triage not what people tell me it should be.

Re: Topic Tuesday: The positive side of mental health difficulties *NOW OPEN*

I reckon there are many positives for those around me.  If I'm calmer, more centred and more self aware those around me can breath easier and not be so concerned about what's going to happen next!

Re: Topic Tuesday: The positive side of mental health difficulties *NOW OPEN*

Everyone's posts are so inspiring. I think we should re-name tonight's topic from 'what gifts/positives have come from your experience' to 'what superpowers have you gained from your experience'

🙂 🙂 🙂

Re: Topic Tuesday: The positive side of mental health difficulties *NOW OPEN*

karma hey thanks

No you've nailed the point squarely

That's not to blame others for our illness

just like we pay for roadworks and sewer systems, and the medicare levy

whether we need them as individuals

we respond as a society

I used to work in health care, university level training

so it got me thinking (always a bad sign)
