Topic Tuesday: The positive side of mental health difficulties *closed*

Re: Topic Tuesday: The positive side of mental health difficulties *NOW OPEN*

Here's a thought,

Say we look at illness, not just mental illness but all health problems,

& if more than one person has a particular complaint,

then its a problem for, in escalating order,

a pair, a group, a cadre, a whole crapload of people.

Its an outbreak, a syndrome, an endemic, an epidemic, a pandemic.

If we regard the society and environment as having a problem then the addressing of that problem should be the concern of all those affected.

The whole society.

My self awareness came post diagnosis.  A much clearer insight into my limits, boundaries and allowing me to concentrate on the positive and learn how to ditch the negative.

Re: Topic Tuesday: The positive side of mental health difficulties *NOW OPEN*

coal miners used to take a canary with them into the mines

if the canary dies, get the heck out

so we who are affected by MI are responding to what effects everyone

we should be thanked

oh and a big hiya to coffeegirl and the rest of the posters

good to seeya all

@JT - I'd love to hear about some strategies you use to 'ditch the negative'!!!

Re: Topic Tuesday: The positive side of mental health difficulties *NOW OPEN*

Anyway, just to reiterate what I had said in my post before, I see my experience as a blessing. I've learnt so much about people, including myself, having gone through it. It inspired me work in mental health as well so it's been really great!

Re: Topic Tuesday: The positive side of mental health difficulties *NOW OPEN*

Mine are only small things so far but they have helped to change my thinking. I've learnt the importance of being kinder to myself, not be so critical of myself, but be more like how I would treat a close friend. Also to find one positive thing in every day to focus on, especially helps after a bad day. I've never been able to think positively before, so trying to overcome depression and anxiety I'm learning the power of changing my thought patterns😊

Woman Happy

good point JT

Empathy with others.  Caring, being nurturing & helpful.

I'm going to bring up religion, so sorry in advance.

I think it was in the Gospel according to Luke:  Take the beam from your eye so that you can see to take the splinter from your brother's eye.
